Overview
The IELTS Writing section consists of two tasks:
Task 1: Writing a report based on visual information (e.g., charts, graphs, maps, or diagrams).
Task 2: Writing an essay in response to a point of view, argument, or problem.
Task 1: Writing a Report
You have 20 minutes to complete Task 1, and you need to write at least 150 words. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
1. Understand the Visual Information
- Look carefully at the chart, graph, map, or diagram.
- Identify the main features such as trends, comparisons, and significant changes.
2. Plan Your Report
- Introduction: Paraphrase the information given in the question. This means rewriting it in your own words.
- Overview: Describe the main trends or differences. This is a summary of the key points.
- Details: Give more specific information about the main features. Use data and examples from the visual information.
3. Write Your Report
- Introduction Example: "The bar chart illustrates the number of students enrolled in three different courses over a ten-year period."
- Overview Example: "Overall, the number of students increased in all courses, with Course A showing the most significant growth."
- Details Example: "In 2010, there were 50 students in Course A, which rose to 150 by 2020. In comparison, Course B started with 30 students and reached 90 in the same period."
